MOVING
A PIANO

In a private sale, it is customary that the buyer arrange and pay for moving the piano. Dealers will deliver the piano and often include a home tuning in the purchase price. Generally pianos are moved in two ways: by a professional mover or by the buyer or seller themselves. There are pros and cons to both. Using a mover can be costly and not always available when you are. However, an experienced mover will use equipment and methods to eliminate damage to the piano and to the home, and accepts the responsibility for the safe transport of the instrument.

Homegrown movers certainly cost less, may be available at the right time and could do a good job. But inexperience and lack of the proper equipment can result in damage and/or injury to piano, home and personnel. Each move has to be judged on its own particular needs. Especially fine instruments are best moved by professionals. To find a good mover, consult piano dealers and technicians for recommendations.
